Our Bounty Hunter BHJS Junior Metal Detector review takes you through the features of this metal detector designed for the young detectorist. It’s one of the lowest priced metal detectors for kids available.
About the Bounty Hunter BHJS Junior Metal Detector
This Bounty Hunter children’s metal detector, the BHJS, is not a toy. It’s a real metal detector with real features and functionality. You’ll find this unit is compact, ergonomic and lightweight, which is great for little arms who will want to swing it for hours as they go on a treasure hunting adventure. The Bounty Hunter Jr metal detector, with its adjustable shaft, is designed to suit kids between six and twelve.
It doesn’t have an LCD screen, instead, it’s an analog detector with a needle that swings further to the right, the stronger the signal is.
Your kids (or grandkids) will be able to detect coin-sized objects up to 5 inches deep and larger objects, to three feet! This unit is seriously not a toy.
The discrimination control works well to eliminate unwanted metals like soda can pull tabs, bottle caps and other junk metals, while the target indicator meter measures the signal’s strength. The volume of the signal increases as targets get closer.
The 6.5-inch search coil is not waterproof; it’s only weather resistant. If you want the kids to be able to go treasure hunting in rivers or at the beach consider the National Geographic Pro Series Metal Detector, the Ground EFX MCI Youth Metal Detector or Bounty Hunter’s Time Ranger.
If you’re considering this Bounty Hunter model, you might also want to see our Bounty Hunter Junior Target ID Metal Detector review. The Target ID detector is a fraction more expensive than the BHJS, so ultimately, it will depend on your budget and the features you want.
