In our Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II review, we’ll look at the features of this waterproof pulse induction metal detector with a nose for eliminating junk metal, whether you’re on land or under the sea.
About the Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II
The Garrett Sea Hunter MK II is a pulse induction underwater metal detector with a nose for eliminating most of the junk you’ll come across on land or underwater – it features Garrett’s ‘Trash Elimination’ mode to eliminate pull tabs from soda cans and other annoying small metal trash items while locating your target. Talk about saving time by not digging up all that junk! It’s also designed to ignore the effects of minerals and salt water, making it perfect for treasure hunting in the sea.
The Sea Hunter Mark II features four configurations for use over the ground, in the mud, in the surf or underwater to 200 feet. It has neutral buoyancy, so you won’t sink or struggle to keep the detector down.
We recommend that you practice using the Sea Hunter on land and in shallow water before taking it diving.
The Sea Hunter Mark 2 is good for:
- SCUBA diving and underwater treasure hunting in the ocean, lakes and other waterways
- Jewelry hunting
- Coin and relic hunting
- Wet salt beach hunting
- Finding all types of metal, including brass, lead, cartridge shells and foil.
Overall, this is a really solid unit.
Garrett Sea Hunter vs AT Pro
The Sea Hunter Mark II’s price point is around $200 more than the Garrett AT Pro. But for the extra money, you get a waterproof machine that you can take scuba diving to a depth of 200 feet (66 meters). The Sea Hunter is a pulse induction metal detector, which are generally known to perform better in salt water than VLFs.
So, when it comes to the Garrett Sea Hunter vs ATO Pro, if you’re not a SCUBA diver and underwater treasure hunter, then the Garrett AT Pro might be a better choice for you – it’s waterproof to 10 feet, so you can still take it in the surf, but just not to great depths under the sea.
